Dee Shippelhute was born in Brooklyn,
New York in 1954. Her Mother and Father passed in 1959,
she was raised in Western Massachusetts by her maternal
grandmother along with her four siblings.
After high
school her fascination for creativity steered her into
Cosmetology School. She
married, raised a family and worked as a Cosmetologist for
several years. Later,
she became divorced, returned to school, remarried, raised a
second family and worked in health care as a Manager for an
Obstetrician and later for a Hospital.
She
took evening classes at Holyoke Community College and Westfield
State College until she moved to Cape Cod in 2001, following her
second divorce. She
studied Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and took
instruction from local Cape Cod Artists.
Because
of her passion for Art and the work of Master Artists she studied
them intensively. Her
major influences have been Jackson Pollock, Henri Matisse, Pablo
Picasso, Hans Hofmann, Wassily Kandinsky, Vincent Van Gogh and Frida
Kahlo.
Dee’s
medium of choice is dictated through a zest for originality along
with exposure to the art of different cultures.
Her love of texture and depth and expression of space is
channeled into a balance of color that is essentially an exploration
and a meditation.
Her
plan is to travel and live in different countries so that she and
her art can be influenced further and evolve positively.
